Island Twist on a Classic: The Kingston Negroni

Fri, Apr 05, 24  |  rum cocktails

The Negroni – that iconic blend of gin, Campari, and sweet vermouth – is a timeless cocktail. But what if you crave a taste of the tropics with your evening tipple? Enter the Kingston Negroni, a vibrant twist on the classic that swaps gin for Jamaican rum and adds a touch of Caribbean flair.

Here's what you'll need to craft your own Kingston Negroni:

  • 1 oz Jamaican Rum (aged or gold rum preferred)
  • 1 oz Campari
  • 1 oz Sweet Vermouth
  • Orange Twist (for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. Fill a mixing glass with ice. Add the rum, Campari, and sweet vermouth.
  2. Stir gently for about 15 seconds to chill and dilute the drink.
  3. Strain into a chilled rocks glass filled with a large ice cube.
  4. Express the oils from the orange twist by gently squeezing it over the drink and then add it as a garnish.

Tips & Tricks:

  • For a more intense rum flavor, use a dark Jamaican rum.
  • Don't have sweet vermouth? Dry vermouth can be substituted, but the drink will be drier. You may want to add a bar spoon of simple syrup to balance the flavors.
  • Feeling fancy? Make your own orange twist by using a vegetable peeler to remove a thin strip of peel from an orange.

So ditch the ordinary and set sail for flavor adventure with the Kingston Negroni.  This vibrant cocktail is the perfect way to unwind and experience a taste of the Caribbean, all from the comfort of your own home. Bottoms up!
