Chicago Cocktail Recipe

Fri, May 31, 24  |  brandy cocktails

This twist on the Old Fashioned incorporates some elements said to be common in Chicago-style Old Fashioneds.  It's a richer and fruitier take on the classic, perfect for brandy lovers.

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz Brandy
  • 1/2 oz Orange Liqueur (such as Grand Marnier)
  • 1/2 oz Simple Syrup
  • 2 Dashes Angostura Bitters
  • Orange slice for garnish
  • Maraschino cherry for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. In a rocks glass, muddle the orange slice with a bar spoon to release the oils.
  2. Pour in the brandy, orange liqueur, simple syrup, and angostura bitters.
  3. Stir gently to combine the flavors. Fill the glass with ice.
  4. Express the oils from the orange peel over the drink and add it to the glass along with the maraschino cherry (optional).  Give it a stir and enjoy!

Tips:

  • Use a good quality brandy for the best flavor.
  • You can make your own simple syrup by dissolving equal parts sugar and water in a saucepan over low heat.
  • Adjust the amount of simple syrup to your taste preference.
  • For a lighter and more refreshing drink, you can top it off with a splash of club soda or orange soda after adding the ice.
