Cozy Up by the Fire with a Campfire Sling

Tue, Jun 18, 24  |  rye whiskey cocktails

The Campfire Sling is a warm and inviting cocktail perfect for chilly nights. This twist on the Old Fashioned combines the robust spice of rye whiskey with the rich sweetness of maple syrup and a hint of chocolate for a truly comforting drink.

Ingredients:

  • 2 ounces Rye Whiskey (preferably 100-proof like Rittenhouse)
  • ¼ ounce Pure Maple Syrup
  • 3 Dashes Chocolate Bitters
  • Large Ice Cube
  • Orange Twist (for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. In a rocks glass (old-fashioned glass works too!), add a large ice cube.
  2. Pour in the rye whiskey, maple syrup, and chocolate bitters.
  3. Stir gently for 30 seconds to chill and dilute the drink.
  4. Express the oils from the orange twist by gently squeezing it over the drink and then dropping it in the glass for garnish. Alternatively, you can scorch the orange twist with a lighter or match for a smoky touch (be careful and extinguish any flame before dropping it in!).

Tips:

  • For a touch of smokiness without the flame, try using a peated scotch instead of rye whiskey.
  • If you don't have chocolate bitters, you can experiment with Peychaud's bitters for a slightly different flavor profile.
  • Want to elevate the presentation? Dip the rim of your glass in maple syrup before adding ice for a touch of sweetness.
  • Customize the sweetness by adjusting the amount of maple syrup to your preference.

Curl up by the fire, sip on a Campfire Sling, and savor the warm, inviting flavors of this autumnal delight.
