Toast the Bard with a Bobby Burns Cocktail

Tue, Jun 18, 24  |  scotch cocktails

The Bobby Burns is a sophisticated and well-balanced cocktail named after Scotland's beloved poet, Robert Burns. This whiskey-based drink is perfect for those who appreciate a touch of sweetness alongside the bold character of Scotch.

Ingredients:

  • 2 ounces Blended Scotch Whisky (ideally a 12-year-old)
  • ¾ ounce Sweet Vermouth (such as Carpano Antica or Dolin Rouge)
  • ½ ounce Benedictine (or other herbal liqueur)
  • Lemon Peel (for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. Gather your ingredients and a chilled coupe glass.
  2. In a mixing glass filled with ice, combine the scotch, sweet vermouth, and Benedictine.
  3. Stir for 30 seconds, or until well chilled and diluted. The outside of the mixing glass should feel cold.
  4. Strain the concoction into your chilled coupe glass.
  5. Express the lemon peel by squeezing its oils over the drink and then discarding it.

Tips:

  • For a richer and slightly spicier profile, use a peated Scotch whisky.
  • Don't have Benedictine? Try another herbal liqueur like Averna or Meletti for a similar depth of flavor.
  • If you prefer a drier drink, reduce the amount of sweet vermouth to ½ ounce.
  • Play with the ratios to find your perfect balance of sweetness and herbal notes.

Raise a glass to Robert Burns and savor this timeless cocktail. The Bobby Burns is sure to become a new favorite for any whisky enthusiast!
