The Blood & Sand cocktail is a classic blend of Scotch whisky, cherry liqueur, sweet vermouth, and orange juice. Named after a 1922 silent film starring Rudolph Valentino, this cocktail is known for its vibrant color and intriguing flavor profile.

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 oz Scotch whisky
  • 3/4 oz Cherry Heering or other cherry liqueur
  • 3/4 oz Sweet vermouth
  • 3/4 oz Fresh orange juice
  • Orange peel, for garnish

Instructions:

1. Prepare Your Glassware: Chill a coupe or cocktail glass in the freezer or by filling it with ice water while you prepare the drink.
2. Combine Ingredients: In a cocktail shaker, combine the Scotch whisky, cherry liqueur, sweet vermouth, and fresh orange juice.
3. Shake Well: Fill the shaker with ice and shake vigorously for about 15-20 seconds. This helps to chill and properly blend the ingredients.
4. Strain and Serve: Double strain the mixture into the chilled coupe glass using a fine mesh strainer to remove any pulp or ice shards.
5. Garnish: Express the oils from an orange peel over the drink and then drop it into the glass as a garnish.
